It's part of the deal, that you have to travel to neighboring villages to maintain a ghostly connection to this world.  It isn't enough to idle away at the shaded manor.  However, the dignifiers have agitated the local villagers with fear of your kind.  Only your presence can defend Ashadeaway Manor.
